OK, lets start by saying, as you guys know after saying on this show countless times , Tomb Raider is without doubt my favorite games of all time, so you may be forgiven in taking what i’m going to say with a pinch of salt, and that is…..

TR SHIPWRECK

…..I have asked myself many, many times this week on how I’m going to tell you guys about this game…..why?, because quite simply I’m within a whisker of saying this is THE best game I have ever played, now is that because its my favorite franchise?, maybe so, but I’ve also asked myself this…….what IS my favorite game ever???, and I can’t put an answer to that…..so…..

…I’ll say this, if in my opinion, you or I play a better game this year, I’ll be amazed, because from the first opening half hour of this game you know you’re in for something special, and one thing I will say, is that again, I have never seen a game that gets better and better the further and deeper you go into this game.

From the just superb and faultless control set up, to the collectables…yes, you heard me and probably groaned slightly to, there are collectables in this game, and let’s not beat around the bush here, there are a hell of a lot of them, from the GPS sets, to coins, to medals and so on and so on…..and at the start you will be forgiven, in this vast environment,in to thinking how on earth am I going to find all these, when literally they are the tiniest glowing item in an enormous playing field, however let me say right now, everything becomes clearer as you progress further into this  amazing storyline, to the point you will get maps to help with this vast collection, even if like me you’re not into collectables, you soon get the bug to go in search of them all, because the game and the sheer spectacular environments just makes you want to.

TR2 Onto the story, you are Lara, stranded on some mysterious island after a boat sinking in a big storm, and that’s where you get the feeling this is something special after a breathtaking opening sequence, and let me say right now….it doesn’t stop there either, from searching for all your friends, to the evil fanatical cult keeping you on your toes.
The most underlying thing however for me, is the way the “island” environment changes seamlessly, to make it feel like so many different locations, that seem to change like magic as you climb your way through the island, and you can’t help feel it just feels right.
With an upgrade system that gets easily familiar as you progress through the game, to a nice “camp fire” auto save mechanic that works just right.

I have tried and tried to see if this is indeed my best gaming experience ever….and I keep coming up with the same answer…I can’t find anything else to touch it, and where my die hard fanboyism in tomb raider probably lies at the depth of these thoughts, you can’t help thinking this the further and deeper you go into this great storyline.

TR FIRE

The underlying thing I like about the new “Square Enix” addition to this franchise is, yes its been given a great updated feel, but you will just love the “Tomb Raider” feel, that pops up as you progress, from the secret tombs you find, to the jumping , climbing that is at the heart of all tomb raider games, gone though are the dreaded “leaps of faith” that littered and ruined previous Lara adventures, instead we are given great seamless controls, a good array of weapons, and an overall feeling of a superb update to the Tomb Raider franchise.

All in all this is a game that “Every” gamer has to try and play, its an experience that will be spoke about for years to come, a fantastic effort by the team, delivers on every promise of bringing Lara back to the top of the gaming tree, a joy to play, simply superb.
Don’t like marks, but yes my has to be my first 10/10 game.
